Anne has worked in academic environments, at second and third level for over forty years. Her teaching career began with three years in St. Mary’s Holy Faith Convent Glasnevin, a large girls’ secondary school in North Dublin where she belonged to the RE department.
For the next thirty years Anne was a lecturer in Religious Studies in St Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Dublin, where she was known as a creative and original teacher integrating material from many different disciplines. Her teaching was always experiential, student-centred and dialogical. Her theology lectures were also invitations to explore contemporary film, theatre, novel, biography and poetry.
She taught courses in myth, symbol and ritual, inviting students to discover the mythic dimensions of their own lives, and to identify their own specific cultural mythos, with a view to finding new possibilities for being human.
She lectured extensively in the area of feminist theology and spirituality and also worked in other academic environments offering papers on feminist theory and practice especially in the area of Drama Studies.
Her teaching on Celtic Spirituality spanned pre-christian, late Celtic and early Christian Ireland and offered students the chance to explore and source the ingredients of a contemporary Celtic spirituality.
Her elective courses on Mindfulness, Presence and Meditation offered time to explore different meditative practices and provided an opportunity for students to journal and evaluate their own progress through the course
An Integral Approach
Anne is committed to integrating mind, body and spirit
As a teacher Anne has always believed in developing herself as a resource.
Her ongoing pursuit of academic qualifications has always been balanced by other courses that focus on developing the body and heart as well as the mind.
